Most "Korea autumn foliage" guides are written about Seoul, Naejangsan and Seoraksan — and then couples apply those dates to Jeju and arrive a fortnight early to a stubbornly green island. Jeju is Korea's southernmost province and its own weather system. Autumn gets here late, stays mild, and moves down a mountain rather than down a map. It also looks different: the frame that says "Jeju in autumn" is a hillside of silver grass (억새) catching the last hour of light — maple and ginkgo are here too, but on this island they are the supporting cast, not the headline. Here is how to time all of it.
When Jeju's Autumn Colour Actually Peaks
Hallasan rises 1,950m from the sea in the middle of the island, so on any given November morning you can stand in full autumn colour at the highlands and drive forty minutes to a coastline that still looks like early October. That vertical spread is the single most useful thing to understand when scheduling a shoot.

Treat these as windows, not promises. A warm September pushes everything later by a week; an early cold snap pulls it forward. The Korea Forest Service publishes a national foliage forecast each September, and we watch the island week by week — if your dates look like they will land off-peak, we will tell you honestly and suggest what to shoot instead.
Why This Is the Best-Value Window of the Year

Six Autumn Locations That Work in a Gown
Plenty of Jeju's best foliage is at the end of a two-hour hike. These are the spots we actually shoot, chosen because you can reach them in wedding shoes and still get the frame.
1. Saryeoni Forest Path (사려니숲길) — the deep-colour forest
A wide, flat, gravelled forest trail through mixed deciduous woodland in the island's middle elevations. Free to enter, no climbing, and the light filters through the canopy in a way that flatters every skin tone. The classic frame here is a long lens down the path with the couple small in a tunnel of colour.
- Peak: late October to the first week of November
- Best for: editorial wide shots, walking frames, veil movement
- Watch out: it is a popular trail on autumn weekends — we shoot it early morning for empty frames
2. 1100 Highland Wetland (1100고지) — colour without the hike
The 1100 Road climbs straight over Hallasan's shoulder, and the wetland at the top has a short boardwalk loop right beside the car park. This is how you photograph Hallasan's autumn colour without attempting a summit trail in a dress — and it turns two weeks before anywhere else on the island.
- Peak: mid-to-late October
- Best for: the earliest autumn dates, mountain backdrops, moody cloud
- Watch out: noticeably colder and windier than the coast — bring a coat for between frames, and expect fog to roll through
3. Jeju Stone Park (제주돌문화공원) — maple against black basalt
Red maple over black volcanic stone is the most distinctly Jeju autumn image there is; you cannot reproduce it on the mainland. The park is landscaped, walkable, and has a small entrance fee.
- Peak: early to mid November
- Best for: high-contrast colour, architectural frames, rain days (the stone looks better wet)
4. Saebyeol Oreum (새별오름) — silver grass at golden hour
The autumn workhorse. A 15-minute climb up a parasitic volcanic cone covered in waist-high silver grass that turns the last hour of light into something cinematic. It overlaps the entire foliage season, so it anchors almost every autumn itinerary we build.
- Peak: October 20 – November 15
- Best for: sunset silhouettes, drone work, the single most recognisable Jeju autumn frame
5. Seogwipo waterfall parks — the late bloomers
Cheonjeyeon and the Seonimgyo bridge area hold their maples longest, often still colouring when the rest of the island has gone bare. They are the safety net for a late-November date.
- Peak: mid to late November
- Best for: rescuing dates that fall after the main window
6. Tangerine orchards — Jeju's own autumn
From early November the island's tangerine groves go orange, and a private orchard shoot is something no mainland studio can offer. Warm, domestic, joyful — the frames people actually print. We arrange access with growers we work with each year.
- Peak: November through December
- Best for: colour when the leaves have gone, playful and candid frames
Maple or Ginkgo? They Are Not in the Same Places
Couples often ask for both in one day, which is possible but needs planning, because they grow in different parts of the island:
- Maple (단풍) — red and scarlet. Forests, parks and gardens: Saryeoni, Stone Park, the Seogwipo waterfall parks. Peaks late October at elevation, early-to-mid November lower down.
- Ginkgo (은행) — that unmistakable yellow. Planted as street trees, so it is an urban look: avenues in Jeju City and around Seogwipo. Peaks early-to-mid November and drops fast — often within a week of turning.
If yellow ginkgo matters to you, say so when you book. It has the narrowest window of anything on this page, and it decides which week we recommend.
What to Wear for Autumn Colour
Autumn backdrops are saturated and warm, so the usual summer instincts work against you:
- Ivory and champagne over pure bright white — white clips to a flat block against red maple
- Deep jewel tones for the second outfit — forest green, burgundy, navy sit beautifully in foliage
- Avoid red-on-red. A red dress in a maple forest disappears; save it for the silver-grass oreum where it is spectacular
- Layers you can remove between frames — the highlands and the coast differ by several degrees on the same day

Weather and Daylight
- Temperature: 16–22°C in October, 12–17°C in November — the coast is consistently milder than the highlands
- Rain: October is one of Jeju's driest months; November is dry but windier
- Wind: steady and useful — this is the season for veil and fabric movement
- Sunset: around 6:00 PM in mid-October, closer to 5:30 PM by mid-November. The shooting day ends earlier than couples expect, so we start earlier.
A Realistic Autumn Shoot Day
- 7:30 AM: Studio — makeup, hair, first gown
- 9:30 AM: Saryeoni Forest Path while the trail is still empty
- 11:30 AM: Drive up to the 1100 Highland for the mountain frames
- 1:00 PM: Lunch, outfit change
- 2:30 PM: Jeju Stone Park or a tangerine orchard for warm colour
- 4:30 PM: Saebyeol Oreum — begin the climb for golden hour
- 5:15–5:45 PM: Sunset frames in the silver grass
- 7:00 PM: Back at your hotel

Autumn is the year's most competitive window — foliage couples and silver-grass couples are booking the same weekends.
- 5 months ahead (May 2027): Enquire and hold the date with a deposit
- 4 months ahead (June 2027): Book flights — autumn is also peak tourism season into Jeju
- 3 months ahead (July 2027): Book accommodation
- 2 months ahead (August 2027): Confirm outfits and any location requests such as ginkgo or an orchard
- 1 month ahead (September 2027): Entry paperwork, skincare, final logistics
